FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN IS THE LIBRARY OPEN? The library is open 55 hours a week: Monday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.; Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Holiday closings are publicized on the web page and in the Ledger Independent. Emergency closings will be publicized on WFTM and WAGX as well as on the web page. WHO CAN USE THE MEETING ROOM? The meeting room is available for use by community members of non-profit organizations at no cost. Profit making groups may rent the room for $25.00 for training or informational purposes. Social events such as parties, reunions, or other similar functions are not appropriate uses of the meeting room. All groups interested in using the room must reserve it in advance and fill out an organizational information form. You can check the room’s availability by calling the library at 606-564-3286 or emailing: masoncolibrary@bellsouth.net. HOW CAN I GET A LIBRARY CARD? Mason County residents or students of educational institutions in Mason County can get their free library card by bringing something to the Library to verify their address: for example, a driver's license, state identification card, or other similar document. Residents from areas outside of Mason County are eligible for a card upon payment of a $5.00 annual fee and supplying an address confirmation document. CAN I GET ON THE INTERNET AT THE LIBRARY? Mason County Public Library has 12 free public internet access terminals. Individuals are asked to comply with the Library’s policies and procedures in order to use the terminals, and to limit use to one hour during periods of high demand. Microsoft Office software is provided on all terminals and several terminals offer Publishing software. In addition one workstation is configured to assist patrons who require visual accommodations. DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO USE THE LIBRARY? There is no cost associated with the use of library materials, internet access, use of computers for word processing or other office functions, children’s programming or other informational programs sponsored by the library. Materials which are returned after their due dates incur fines at the rate of five cents a day for each overdue item for print material, $2 per day for video materials. Out of county residents pay $5 a year for their library cards. It costs ten cents a page to print or copy black and white documents. CAN I FAX OR RECEIVE FAXED DOCUMENTS AT THE LIBRARY? Documents can be faxed from the library or received at the library. Fees are as follows: · $1.00/ page for faxed documents · $0.50/page for received documents · $0.50/page for documents faxed to toll free numbers Our fax number is 606-564-5408 WHEN IS STORY TIME? Storytimes for pre-school aged children are on Thursdays at 10:00 A.M and 11:15 A.M. The Lap-sit program for infants and toddlers is on Wednesday at 11:00 P.M. There is no registration requirement. CAN I RENEW MY MATERIALS FROM HOME? You can renew most materials from your home by calling 606-564-3286, or through our online catalog. To access Your account through the catalog you’ll need to have your library card handy and use the last four digits of your phone number as the password. Overdue materials or materials with a waiting list cannot be renewed online. HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THINGS I’VE BORROWED FROM THE LIBRARY? Feature films can be borrowed overnight, documentary type and children’s instructional films can be borrowed for 7 days. Books, Audio books, magazines, and music CDs may be borrowed for 2 weeks. |
